FROM THE AIM RESCUE TEAM DIRECTOR:
At 7pm on Monday the 25th of July, officers from the Phnom Penh Anti Human Trafficking and Juvenile Protection Police (AHTJP) together with AIM Rescue Team executed a raid on a brothel fronting as a massage parlor, which was suspected to be selling minors for sex in central Phnom Penh.
During the raid, a 16-year-old girl was rescued along with 7 women, and 2 suspected traffickers were arrested. In interviews, the 16-year-old girl and women admitted to being sold for the profit of both traffickers. Additionally, one of the traffickers admitted to selling the girl and women for profit while the other denied any wrongdoing.
Both suspected traffickers have since been charged with child sex trafficking related offences and remanded to prison to await trial. The 16-year-old girl and one of the women were transferred to AIM Restoration Home for aftercare and rehabilitation.
