FROM AIM SWAT TEAM DIRECTOR:

On the evening of Monday, the 24th of October, a raid was carried out at a brothel fronting as a massage parlor on the Phnom Penh riverfront by Phnom Penh Department of Anti-Human Trafficking and Juvenile Protection Police (AHTJP) together with AIM SWAT.

The raid followed a 2-month long investigation revealing girls and women trafficked into this brothel and onwards to other brothels. During the raid, 2 suspects were arrested and 4 women were rescued. The women admitted being sold by those arrested, being trapped in debt bondage to the traffickers and being forced to have sex with all customers.

The 2 suspects denied involvement but have been charged with aggravated procurement of prostitution and remanded to jail pending trial. The 4 rescued were transferred to AIM’s Transitional Home.
