FROM THE AIM RESCUE TEAM DIRECTOR:
During the evening of Friday, the 26th of February, the Phnom Penh Department of the Anti-Human Trafficking and Juvenile Protection Police Department (AHTJP) together with the AIM Rescue Team executed a raid of a brothel fronting as a massage parlor in central Phnom Penh.
The raid followed a joint AIM Rescue Team and AHTJP covert operation, which identified young Vietnamese girls being sold for sex at the premises. During the raid, 2 girls and 5 women were rescued and one trafficker arrested. Both minors have been transferred to a partner aftercare organization and the trafficker has been charged with child sex trafficking related offenses and remanded in custody awaiting trial.
This is an important arrest as the trafficker is known to be deeply involved in the purchase of children from Vietnam to sell for their virginity and also in the organization of girls being sent to work at brothels around the country.
