BREAKING: AIM RESCUE TEAM RAID – MAR 15, 2016

FROM THE AIM RESCUE TEAM DIRECTOR:

At 8:30pm on Tuesday, 15th of March, the Phnom Penh Department of the Anti-Human Trafficking and Juvenile Protection Police (AHTJP) together with the AIM Rescue Team conducted a raid on a brothel fronting as a massage parlor which had been selling minors for sex in Pursat province.

The investigation commenced when one of the victims, a 17-year-old girl, contacted a partner NGO pleading for help to escape the brothel. The undercover investigation that followed identified the victim and several other girls who appeared to be minors being sold for sex by a female trafficker.

During the raid, 6 victims were rescued, most of whom are believed to be minors, and the trafficker was arrested. All girls rescued are currently receiving aftercare at a partner shelter and the trafficker has been charged with child sex trafficking related offences and is currently in jail awaiting trial.

AIM Rescue Team lawyers will represent the victims throughout the court process.
