FROM THE AIM RESCUE TEAM DIRECTOR:
At around 8pm on Tuesday the 29th of March, officers of the Phnom Penh Department of the Anti-Human Trafficking and Juvenile Protection Police Department (AHTJP) together with AIM Rescue Team conducted a raid on a brothel fronting as a massage parlor in Kandal Province.
The raid followed a 2 week long undercover operation indicating that minors were being sold for sex inside the brothel. During the raid, 6 suspected minors and 3 adults were rescued whilst the brothel manager was arrested. During interviews with the AHTJP officers, the victims all admitted to being sold for sex to the profit of the manager.
The 6 suspected minors have all been transferred to AIM Restoration Home where they are receiving aftercare services. Meanwhile, the brothel manager has been charged with several child sex trafficking related offenses and remanded to jail to await trial.
