2023 Q4 SWAT Update

AIM SWAT is finishing the year strong with 39 rescues and 11 arrests in the final quarter! Working in tandem with the Cambodian police gives us the opportunity to investigate potential instances of trafficking, arrest traffickers, and rescue survivors. In addition, AIM SWAT’s Legal Team has continued to advocate for justice on behalf of survivors and their families throughout their court proceedings.

October 9th

After thorough investigation, 5 minors and 2 adults were rescued by AIM SWAT and local police on October 9th! Three of the rescued minors are receiving care at AIM Restoration Home, and the other two have been transferred to our Transitional Home for support on their healing journey. Both adult survivors are receiving services from one of our partner aftercare centers.

The brothel, which had fronted as a massage parlor in southern Phnom Penh, was closed after authorities confirmed that the survivors were being sold for sex at this location. Two trafficker were interviewed and arrested, facing child trafficking charges. 

AIM’s Legal Team will represent all 7 survivors in future court proceedings.

October 27th

At around 9pm on Friday, October 27th, AIM SWAT supported local authorities in a raid at a brothel that had been fronting as a massage parlor.

During the operation, 4 minors and 2 adults were rescued! One suspect was arrested and charged with a child sex trafficking related offense and the brothel was closed by local authorities.

All four rescued minors are now receiving care at AIM’s Restoration Home and both rescued adults have been transferred to Rahab’s House Phnom Penh for aftercare services. 

AIM’s Legal Team has offered free representation to all survivors, and will continue to do so for the duration of the court proceedings.

November 11th

13 SURVIVORS RESCUED in a 4-brothel raid!

At around 9pm on Friday, November 10th, AIM SWAT supported local law enforcement in the raids of four different brothels! The teams had performed an extensive surveillance operation of the four brothels, which were fronting as massage parlors in southern Phnom Penh. During the raids, 4 minors and 9 adults were rescued! Four suspects were arrested.

All four suspects admitted to profiting from the selling of the rescued survivors for sex and were charged with sex trafficking-related offenses. As they await their trial in prison, AIM’s Legal Team prepares for the court cases to come, where they will provide free representation to all survivors and their families.

The four minors are now receiving care at AIM’s Restoration Home, and all adults have been referred to the local district social affairs office for further services. We praise God for these rescues! Please join us in praying for each survivor’s healing and transformation journey.

November 17th

After a thorough investigation, AIM SWAT supported local authorities in the arrest of a man who had been suspected of paying three teenage girls for sex in his home. Further investigations identified five additional minors who had been sold for sex to additional men in the home. During the raid, 8 survivors were rescued and transferred to AIM Restoration Home where they will begin their healing journey.

The suspect awaits his trial in prison, and investigations are ongoing to identify the other offenders in this case. AIM’s Legal Team will represent all survivors throughout their forthcoming proceedings.

December 6th

After a thorough investigation that confirmed minors were being sold for sex to customers, AIM SWAT supported local authorities in the raid of a brothel fronting as a massage parlor in Battambang province. During the raid, 4 minors and 1 woman were rescued! One suspect was arrested and the location was officially closed down by the police.

All four minors were transferred to AIM’s Restoration Home and the rescued adult survivor was transferred to a partner aftercare center for additional services.

The suspect has been charged and remanded to prison to await his trial. AIM’s Legal Team is offering free representation to all survivors throughout the duration of their legal cases.
